THE FOREIGN-LANGUAGE DISCOURSE OF IVAN FRANKO: ANALYTICS OF THE SCIENTIFIC TRANSLATED OEUVRE ACCOMPLISHED
Анотація
The paper deals with the specificity of Ivan Franko’s foreign-language discourse in terms of scientific / scholarly translation. The research focuses on outlining I.Franko’s scientific discourse and highlighting the statistical dimension of the problem. It is the statistics of I.Franko’s scientific-translation oeuvre where the researcher’s attention is focused. To designate this kind of activity, we resort to a more embracing term, viz. “analytics”. From the numerous interpretations of the concept, those topical to us are: methodological basis for the process of information processing, cognitive methodology employing, to gain new knowledge, both strictly scientific and intuitive methods, process of identifying causal and spatial-temporal relations in any objects etc. The tabulated and bibliographed material is analysed chronologically, the hard case being the very calculation of the pages in view of two formats existing – the book and the newspaper-magazine ones. Therefore, the sum total is somewhat conditional or relative. On the other hand, it corresponds to the low estimate, in fact, almost an intuitive assumption done some years ago as to the overall amount of the translated or annotated pages – 2500. Other related forms, such as annotating, reviewing, scientific commentary, term studies issues are dealt with as well. I.Franko’s letters on this problem (epistolary) and works on I. Franko as a scientist-translator should also be entered here. All of them constitute the scientific discourse of Ivan Franko, primarily translated one.
Keywords: translation, scientific paper, scientific / scholarly commentary, term studies, précis-writing, creative method.
