INFORMATION OF EDITING AND REVIEW

Requirements for the content and design of the article


1. Volume and formatting[1].

The full article, including annotations in two languages (English, Ukrainian), appendices, tables, illustrations, the list of literature, should be 20000–35000 characters (including spaces).

The volume of a book review or an important scientific message should be 6000–10000 characters.

Files should be named by the name of the author of the article with the first letter of the name in Latin letters and the number of the issue following the one published on the website.

For example, if the website displays the issue 45, then in the file name it should be specified "46": Balda-T-46.doc. If there are several authors, then the names of the first two authors should be indicated, for example Balda-T_Rashkevych-M-46.doc.

After the article, on the next page you need to provide the information about the author (s):

  • place of work (scientific institution where the study has been conducted);
  • position;
  • academic degree;
  • academic title;
  • phone number;
  • current e-mail;
  • to inform, whether the author's paper copy is necessary;
  • home or business address to send the copy at the expense of the recipient (preferably an office of the "Nova Poshta"), if the author wants to purchase it.

The manuscript must be submitted in a format, which is compatible with Microsoft Word (possible file extensions: .rtf, .doc, .docx). Page size A4; book orientation; all margins 2 cm; font Times New Roman; font size 12-14; line spacing of 1.5.

The title of the article should be typed in plain text, without using the Caps Lock option.

Please distinguish between hyphens and dashes.

Text style is Normal.

Schemes, graphs, diagrams (hereinafter illustrations), formulas and tables should be numbered.

Illustrations and tables should not exceed the limits of the set margins (all 2 cm).

Tables should be edited in a book format in the table editor (menu “Table”).

Formulas in the articles should be typed using the Equation Editor.

Automatic numbering is not appropriate.

Requirements for illustrations. There should be no more than five illustrations. Image file format: jpg. Resolution of illustrations: 300 dpi. Each illustration must be sent as a separate file. The name of the illustration file should be the name of the author of the article. If there are several illustrations, you must add the number of the illustration in the file name to the author's last name. For example, Sklenar1.jpg; Sklenar2.jpg; Sklenar3.jpg.

Before the main text of the article you need to submit the following data in this sequence:

  • UDC index
  • name and surname of the author / authors;
  • the title of the article;
  • name of the represented scientific (educational) institution;
  • postal and e-mail address of the institution;
  • ORCID personal number;
  • annotation in Ukrainian (350-500 characters);
  • 4-6 keywords.


2. The structure of the basic text of the article[2]

In accordance with the requirements for professional scientific editions, the basic text of the article should have a fixed structure. The subsections below, should be numbered, highlighted in the text and placed on a separate line as subheadings.

1. Statement of a problem (topicality, object and tasks of the article). Amount – 8-10 percent of the total amount of the basic text. For example, if an article is on 25 thousand characters, then the statement of a problem – is from 2 to 2.5 thousand characters.

2. Theoretical background, or (for the author’s choice) Analysis of recent research and publications (review of literature and previous studies on this or related problems). Amount – 5-6 percent of the total amount of the basic text.

3. Methodological basis of the research (it should be stated what methods and how exactly have been used for this research, it should be revealed the mechanism of research implementation and explained how its results were obtained). Amount – 4-6 percent.

4. Exposition of the basic research material. Amount – 70-75 percent (not less than 2/3).

5. Results and prospects for further research discussions (it should be given the main results of the research). Amount – 2-3 percent.

6. Conclusion (conclusions). Amount – 5-6 percent.

7. Appendices and Tables (if the author uses the final Appendices and Tables, they must have headings and ordinal numbers, the notes should be placed directly under the tables. The references to those appendices or tables should be definitely in the text of the article).

8. The list of literature. We submit in alphabetical order. The names of the bibliographic description should be in the original languages.

9. References. Also in alphabetical order. Instead, it is a transliterated version with the translation of the titles of articles, books, dates (in periodicals), etc. in English or in the original language in Roman alphabet (eg German, Romanian, Polish, French).

 

3. Annotation requirements

Annotations should be presented in two languages – in Ukrainian and in English (Abstract).

The abstract in Ukrainian is short (350-500 characters), it should reflect the subject of research and the main result or conclusion.

The abstract in English is broadened (1700-2000 characters), in it, in addition to the subject of the research, it is accepted to reproduce the purpose of the research (main objective (s) of the study); to call used methods and to show how the results were obtained, the main results / findings and conclusions) with emphasis on significance for the industry, science, country, etc.

Since the named components of the annotation should be clearly identified, we recommend use words: main objective(s) of the research, methodology, results, findings, conclusions, significance.

The abstract must be written in a competent English language (British or American English, but not a mixture of both). Annotations translated only with the help of computer translators are not allowed!

 

4. Keywords

After annotation, you need to name 4-6 keywords, separated by a semicolon.

Like the editorship of the scientific editions of the Institute of Journalism of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (http://www.journ.univ.kiev.ua/periodyka/index.php/vymogy.html), we also pay attention to the fact that selecting key words, it is necessary to take into account that these words should promote the search of publication in electronic catalogs and science-based databases. We recommend analyze which keywords are commonly used in publications on the subject of your research in key global science-based databases, for example Science Direct Elsevier (Scopus) publisher: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/search. Properly selected keywords will help to search successfully and to increase the citing index of the found work.

 

5. Requirements for registration of references and list of literature

All citations and statistics facts contained in the text must have properly ordered references to the source. The preference should be shown for a direct link to the original source in the original language, rather than to its reproduction in another work or translation (unless it is impossible to access the original in the original language).

All links (footnotes) in the text are page (at the bottom of pages). Their numbering is through (it continues on other pages, but does not begin again). The design is the same as the final bibliographic description.

The general list of literature is presented in accordance with the basic requirements of the Harvard style of bibliographic description in alphabetical order (more on – a little further).

If the present article refers only to sources in Roman alphabet (English, German, French, etc.), that is, there are no works in Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, etc., there is only one References.

If the article contains references to sources either in Roman alphabet (Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese, etc.), or a combination of different references – Roman alphabet and other fonts (eg some links in English, German, and some in Ukrainian, Bulgarian), you must submit two versions of the literature list, and both – according to Harvard style:

1. List of literature is in the original language (all sources are given in the language in which they are published, sources may be in Cyrillic, Roman alphabet, etc.);

2. References (the same list of literature, but exclusively in Roman alphabet – translation and transliteration rules see below).


6. List of literature and References

The Harvard Reference System (Harvard reference system) is taken as a basis for design a bibliographic references.

The principle of the bibliographic description in both lists is identical, the only difference between them it will be recalled that the bibliographic position in the bibliography is displayed in the original languages, and in the reference – translated into English (if available), translated into Roman alphabet in the original language, or transliterated in Roman alphabet.

General rules:

  • First we indicate the author's surname, through the comma – his initials; we call all the authors;
  • after the surname and initials of the author / authors in brackets we indicate the year of publication, for example: (2019);
  • after the publication date in quotation marks, we submit the “Title of the article” or “Title of the section” if this is a reference to the section of the collective monograph;
  • then in italics we will give the Journal or Monograph Title (all significant words of the title of the journal or the book / monograph are written with capital letters);
  • then – through commas – we submit the journal number and article page, or name the publishing house, the city of publication and the total number of pages of the book.


7. Detailed rules for designing links to different types of sources

Link to article in print journal

The general scheme designing a bibliographic reference of the article is as follows:

Author, A.A. (2018), “Title of article”, Title of Journal, vol. 11, no. 3, pp. 59-63.

First, we submit the author's surname, through the comma – his initials (without spaces between the initials) or the name, then in brackets – the year of publication, through the comma - the title of the article in quotation marks, through comma – in italics the title of the journal (all significant words of the journal’s title write with capital letters), through a comma – a journal number, through a comma – a publication page.

If there are several authors, then before the last one, instead of the comma, put the sign & (and):

Author1, A.A., Author2, B.B. & Author3, C.C. (2015), “Title of article”, Title of Journal, vol. 11, no. 4, pp. 10-17.

Link to article in e-journal

It is designed almost in the same way as a link to an article in the print journal, however, there can’t be the numbers of publication’s pages. At the end of the link, by commas, we add the words available at or URL: and submit the web address of the link, then in brackets after the word accessed, we call the date of the last access to the publication.

References in Roman alphabet into Ukrainian and Russian-language articles

The surname of the author is translated using transliteration in accordance with the Table of Transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet in Roman alphabet, confirmed by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of January 27, 2010 (http://zakon4.rada.gov.ua/laws/show/55-2010-p). Such transliteration can be done automatically on web resources: http://translit.kh.ua/?lat& passport, http://ukrlit.org/transliteratsiia#source=0J7Qu9GM0LPQsCDQpdCw0LzQtdC00L7QstC w or on others that are in line with the current state standard approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine from January 27, 2010 N 55 “On the ordering of transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet by the Roman alphabet”.

The title of the article should be translated into English or submitted in the original language in Roman alphabet (eg German, Romanian, Polish, French, etc.).

We translate the title of the journal by transliteration (we write all significant words of the title of the journal with capital letters).

After the title of the journal using transliteration in square bracket we give the title of the journal, translated into English or into the original language by Roman alphabet (eg German, Romanian, Polish, French, etc.).

The general scheme of designing a bibliographic reference to books / monographs is as follows:

Author1, A.A., Author2, B.B. & Author3, C.C. (2019), Title of Book, Publisher, City of publication, 346 p.

First we name the surname of the author, through the comma – his initials (without spaces between the initials), if there are several authors, then before the last name we put the connector “and” (in the Roman alphabet version the sign & (and)), then in brackets the year of publication, through comma – in italics the title of the book / monograph (all significant words of the name are written with capital letters), through comma – the publication number (if there were reprints, and you are not quoting the first edition), through the comma - the name of the publishing house, through the comma - the city of publishing, through the comma - the total number of pages.

If the source is in Cyrillic, then:

  • We transmit the author's surname by transliteration according to the above standard;
  • the title of the book / monograph is translated into English (all significant words of the title are with capital letters);
  • the name of the publishing house is translated using transliteration according to the above standard;
  • We translate the city of publishing into English.

The general scheme of designing a bibliographic reference to a collective monograph differs from the author's monograph (see above) by the fact that at the beginning of the reference, instead of the surname and initials of the author, we name the surname and initials of the editor:

First we name the surname of the author, through the comma – his initials (without spaces between initials), then in brackets the year of publication, through comma – in the brackets the title of the section, through the comma “for” or “in” (English “in”) and the name of the editor, through the comma - the initials of the editor and in the brackets of the abbreviation (Ed., Ed.) or (Eds.) for several editors, through comma – in italics the name of the monograph (all significant words of the name should be written with capital letters), through comma – the publication number (if any), through the comma - the name of the publishing house, through the comma – the publication city, through the comma – the pages of the section.

References to the dissertation and the abstract

The design scheme is approximately the same as for the book / monograph, but after the title of the work we add the words PhD diss. (for the text of the candidate's dissertation), D.Sc. diss. (for the text of the doctoral dissertation), Abstract of the PhD diss. (for the abstract of a candidate’s dissertation), Abstract of the D.Sc. diss. (for the abstract of a doctoral dissertation). After that, in brackets we name abridged the branch of science, from which the dissertation is defended. Then we give the name of the institution where it is protected, through the comma - the name of the city (if it is not obvious from the name of the educational institution), then the number of pages.

First, we indicate the name of the authority or organization – the author of the document, then in brackets – the year of publication, through the comma – in italics the name of the document, through the comma – the date of the document (if any), through the comma – the name of the publishing house (if any), through the comma – the city edition (if any), through comma – the number of pages (if any). If the document is available online – by the comma we should add the words available at: and the web address, then in the brackets after the word accessed indicate the date of the last access to the document.

If the designing of the article does not meet the specified requirements, the editor returns the article to the author for revision or reports a refusal to publish

 

INFORMATION OF EDITING AND REVIEW

1. Editing articles is performed within one month after completion of the collection.

2. The article is edited and reviewed by two independent experts.

3. The editorial conclusion is not open.

4. Editorial staff reserves the right to refuse the publication of the article.

5. The opinion can be opened only by the request of the author in case of publication refusal.
