According to the latest results of studies of the HR-index of the Western region of Ukraine, universal competencies of higher educations graduates, which are most requested by employers, are the desire for self-development, communication skills, self-organization, result orientation and ability to work in a team. Regardless of their position and field, employers assess personal skills of employee as more important than specialty and professional competences.

In November-December 2019, the authors conducted a sociological survey to explore the potential interest and structure of students' interest in acquiring topical professional competences. 436 students of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv attended it. Based on the survey data, we can say that the students' increased demand for leadership competency training and special management tools (93.5% overall and from 23.5% to 67.7% for individual competencies).

Using the methods of system analysis, prioritization and rating of data, we have developed a balanced system of developing students' leadership competencies in the university environment. The author's balanced system of development of students' leadership competences includes four clusters: 1. Self-management and intelligence; 2. Interpersonal communication and influence; 3. Presentation and impression management; 4. Possession of management tools.

In our view, all these groups of competences are closely linked, mutually influential, and together form a set of skills, qualities and characteristics.  That will allow the student and the graduate to become a leader in the short term and  to increase their career opportunities , provide the basis for professional implementation in leadership positions and improve the quality of life in general in the long term.

This system of leadership competencies may in the future be the basis for the development of the structure, content and choice of forms of training. Based on the proposed approach, it can also evaluate the quality of education received in the category of integrated and universal skills required by the labor market.

Keywords: competences, skills, knowledge, leadership, training, leadership competencies, personal skills, self-management, charisma, communicative competences.
