PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATIONS (EXCAVATIONS) IN THE BASIN OF VYSHNIA RIVER IN 2014–2015
Анотація
Basin of Vyshnia river is an extremely interesting region for the modern archaeological science because it was one of the most important contact zones of the ancient cultures of the Eastern and Central Europe. Archaeological sites in this area can uncover a lot of material to study the development and interrelations of three significant archaeological cultures of Late Bronze Age and Iron Age (Thracian Hallstatt, Luzhytska and Vysotska cultures) which is of paramount importance for determining ethnogeny of the population.
As part of the international scientific project in the 2014–2015, survey excavations of ten landmarks in the basin of the Vyshnia river were conducted: Zarichchia-4, Beregove-2, Oselia-5, Oselia-15, Khorosnytsia-6, Dernaky-4, Sarny-1, Maksymtsi-11, Myshliatychi-7 and Kniazhyi Mist-11. Those are mostly settlements containing materials of the Early Iron Age. Some landmarks have two or more cultural and chronological horizons representing Eneolithic, Late-Rome Period and Age of Principalities. Archaeological research revealed the remains of surface and dug-out household structures as well as numerous ceramic items such as fragments of pottery (pots, bowls, pans etc.), metal and flint wares etc.
Keywords: archaeological site, excavations, settlement, object, structure, dwelling, household pit, burial.
