The aim of this work was to develop a procedure for analyzing steel products with a sampling of up to 0.5 g using an inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES). The procedure was checked by analyzing chips taken from standard samples belonging to industrial marks of steel. The results obtained by ICP atomic emission spectroscopy were compared with the results obtained using a spark spectrometer. The developed procedure was applied to determine the chemical compositions of chips taken from different parts of the supporting frame of a truck crane.

Calibration plot for the Cr analytical line at 267.715 nm.
