The ternary aluminide Zr6Cu4Al3 was prepared by arc melting. Its crystal structure was studied by X-ray powder diffraction for the first time. The above mentioned intermetallic compound crystallizes with the rhombohedral W6Fe7 structure type (space group R-3m, Pearson symbol hR39, Z = 3). Isostructural phases were observed in the systems Hf–Cu–Al, NbCuAl, TaCuAl, Zr–Ag–Al, and Hf–Ag–Al.
