The article deals with the main theoretical and methodological approaches of Western and domestic scientists within the framework of the interdisciplinary study of population migration. It is revealed that the substantive community between anthropology, demography and jurisprudence is manifested through the clarification of the “as possible” effect of migration on social changes or society on migration. The main “bridges between disciplines” is the joint set of dependent and independent variables. Due to this recognition of the dominant character of one discipline over others in the study of migration is unlawful. An important component of the multidisciplinary approach is the sociology of migration, which understands migration as a social process that includes readiness for migration, territorial movement and adaptation at a new place of residence. Migration is always the result of choosing between the ability to change your place of residence or stay in the area where you lived. The choice is a decisive link in the structure of the migration process because “the need for migration is secondary, derived from primary needs. The results of the modern analysis of the bibliometric analysis of scientific publications in the scientific-metric database of Web of Science ™ during 1970-2016, made by K. Shimansky, indicate that the leader of the study of international migration on the subject plane belongs to demography (1623 publications), the economy takes a friend position (1222), the third position belongs to geography (741), and sociology takes the fourth position (690). The analysis showed that interdisciplinary approaches to investigated migration occupy only the twelfth. position (281). This is an indirect argument of attention from different disciplines and an iterdisciplinary approach to the study of migration. The most important advantage of the sociological theory of migration is the integration of all other sociological approaches to the study of migration. The field of study of the sociology of migration is so wide that the ethnosociological approach, the theory of the “migration chain”, the cultural approach and the assimilation theory turn into its separate directions.
