Анотація
Astara is the name of two border districts, one in Northwest of Gilan province and the other is located in Southeast of Republic of Azerbaijan which is surrounded by Caspian Sea from East, Talesh Mountains from South and Southwest. In the past, the city has played an important role in the centrality of Talesh historical region, especially during pre Safavid, Safavid and post safavid era. Reliable historical sources proved that, Astara from the middle of Islamic century up to the early Qajar dynasty has included many regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and some parts of the East of Ardabil province and West of Gilan province. However, before writing this research, there were no available books, papers, articles, reports or documents that have specialized form on the subject of minted coins of Astara and in the present article, the Astara region as the center of the Astara province in the middle of Islamic period has coin mint but also in various historical periods in this city, the coin of regional rulers and conquering Sultans have also been minted. In this research, respectively, the coins of Azerbaijan's Atabakan, the Mongol Ilkhanids period, the Mozaffarians, the Jalayrians and finally the Qaraqoyunlus, were examined.
The attempt of the present research, based on its subject, has been to investigate and shed light on the historical impossibility of Astara as the register of a large part of the Talesh ethnic region in the middle Islamic periods, from the point of view of numismatics.
